Steam Game Sharing Planned? [09:27 am ET]

Robag's picture

A thread on NeoGAF notes some code in the new Steam beta suggesting Valve is planning to allow Steam users to select games to share with a circle of friends. This is confirmed on Kotaku, where they say Valve has not yet responded to the report (not a shock since their story went up at 3:00 am on the west coast). Here is the code in question:

“SteamUI_JoinDialog_SharedLicense_Title” “Shared game library”
“SteamUI_JoinDialog_SharedLicenseLocked_OwnerText” “Just so you know, your games are currently in use by borrower. Playing now will send borrower a notice that it’s time to quit.”
“SteamUI_JoinDialog_SharedLicenseLocked_BorrowerText” “This shared game is currently unavailable. Please try again later or buy this game for your own library.”

now this could make me like steam……

sounds awesome but...

sounds awesome but i already own almost everything for steam linux(ill be mostly the sharer then the borrower)

also i wonder how this will work can you lend out games for a set amount of time or is it just you add it to a “share” list and others play anytime they want(except for when you want to play) and can the owner play another game while someone else uses a shared one. still an awesome sounding feature

Steam Trading Cards Launch [Jun 26, 2013, 4:26 pm ET]

Today we’re making Steam Trading Cards available to everyone. Steam Trading Cards are virtual cards you can earn just by playing some of your favorite games, like Team Fortress 2, FTL, GRID 2, Monaco, Trine 2, Super Meat Boy, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, and more. In total there are over 30 games with Steam Trading Cards, with more being added every week. Collecting cards lets you craft new badges for your Steam Profile and earn rewards like emoticons, profile backgrounds, and coupons.

We’ve also updated everyone’s Steam Community profile with a new look. The new profile has a more concentrated focus on what you play and how you participate on Steam. There are new customization options as well, like the new profile Showcases that let you choose what you want to show off: favorite games, items up for trade, workshop mods, hard-earned achievements, and more.

Additionally, you’ll see a new “Steam Level” on your profile, and when hovering over a player’s avatar. Every badge on Steam now grants XP, which contributes to your Steam Level. If you’ve been a Steam member for more than a year and have at least one game on your account, then you’ve already got two badges. You can earn more by participating in events and sales, collecting trading cards, trying out all the Steam Community features, and more.

To learn more about all the new features, visit the Trading Card Update Page

Cards

I better get some cards for my NBA 2K13 games…

Played a game last night – Me Golden State Warriors, vs LA Lakers. Triple Overtime.

Step Curry a 3 to put it to OT. Andrew Bogut a dunk with 1 second on the clock to go to double OT.

Kobe fouled out in the 3rd OT, and I ended up leading by 10. The guy rage quit.

If getting a guy to rage quit after getting himself all the way to triple overtime doesnt deserve a card, NOTHING DOES!

Whoever you are mr triple ot quitter – you made my night lol.

Fuzz.
